Cashmere from Mongolia
Cashmere wool is one of the most exclusive materials, made of the hair of white goats, originally from India, China and Pakistan. Cashmere is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, it doesn’t wrinkle and gets even softer by wearing it more often. This let me to submerge myself into different sorts of wool, especially cashmere wool. I got fascinated by the Nomads and the harshness of the land. The enormous steps with Nomads, living their own culture. They live in gers on sandy dunes and broad plateaus. Wide, mysterious and impressive.
The differences in temparatures in this region are immense. In summer it can get as warm as 104F. But, in the wintertime, as the cold wind blows over the steppes, temperatures can drop till under -40F. This forces the livestock to develop fine downy coats to insulate them from the bitter wheather. Because of the unique circumstances the Nomads in these regions have been able to produce cashmere since generations, with the highest standards in the world. This goes for the cashmere wool as well as for their yak wool.
